Remote fertility clinics are expanding access to reproductive healthcare but face challenges due to a lack of specialized collaboration tools for care teams and patients. As demand grows, tailored digital solutions are increasingly critical. Many clinics, like Same Fertility, rely on tools such as Airtable and Google Sheets, which offer flexibility but fail to meet the complex needs of fertility care management.
Sama Care team has struggled with fragmented tooling and a heavy reliance on manual updates in Google Spreadsheets and Airtable to track patient progress, leading to communication breakdowns and treatment delays.
Simultaneously, patients face a disjointed experience marked by limited transparency and the need to juggle multiple third-party applications for medication tracking. The dependence on emails and phone calls as primary communication channels further strains the already overextended care teams, exacerbating operational inefficiencies and patient frustration.
This scenario presents a compelling opportunity to develop two integrated applications—one tailored for the care team and another for patients — designed to enhance the user experience and reinforce the company’s trustworthiness and value.
As the solo designer, I led the end-to-end design of a digital solution for a remote fertility clinic, including the development of a comprehensive design system. Collaborating closely with the CTO and the care team, I helped shape the clinic's digital vision to ensure a seamless and supportive patient experience. I engaged directly with customers to deeply understand their needs, fears, and challenges, translating those insights into a digital tool that empowers them to navigate their fertility treatments with confidence. Working with a remote team of developers, I ensured the solution was both user-centered and technically feasible, driving alignment across all stakeholders.
For the care team, a dedicated app streamlines patient management by automating tracking processes, centralizing communication, and providing real-time updates on patient status. The web app alleviates administrative burdens, reduces errors, and enhances coordination among healthcare providers.
For patients, a complementary app offers a cohesive platform to monitor their treatment journey, receive timely notifications, and access personalized resources. By consolidating information and communication into a single interface, patients gains clarity and confidence in their treatment plans, leading to improved adherence and satisfaction.
